THE REUNION

My career honestly got jump-started 13 years ago when BET gave me an opportunity to shoot BTS/alongside motion on a branding campaign. That was such a pivot moment in my career. It was my first exposure to shooting, meeting, and working with entertainers prior to that, my focus had been solely on athletes. And it piqued my interest in a whole new direction.

By my 3rd shoot with BET it was up, the relationship went into hyperdrive. At one point I was shooting for them 3 times a month. They became incredible collaborators, and even more than that, the team at BET became family.

My run with BET was pretty epic 2013 to 2019, over 40 jobs. I always knew it would slow down and eventually come to an end, but I knew the bond and relationship would last forever. So it was fitting that my last shoot with them was my last shoot before Covid shut the world down. I knew that time was special, and that it was never meant to last forever.

The door they opened for me needed to be opened for other creatives too, and I wanted that for them. I used to send other creatives my bids, my crew, and any other resources I could offer to help them win BET jobs. And my family at BET, when they moved on to other networks and agencies, often opened those doors up for me too.

Fast forward 7 years and not having worked for BET over that time so much had changed. Fortunately, a full circle moment happened. A few months ago I got a FaceTime call from 2 of my OG BET folks asking if I’d be interested in shooting Druski for the artwork for the BET Awards. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. Firstly, I’d never turn down BET for any project they’re a huge part of the birth of my career. Secondly, I love the 2 creatives who hit me up. We’ve been rocking together for more than a decade and made so much dope work. And finally, that boy Druski is such a talented creator, I couldn’t wait to mix it up with him.

I don’t know when or if I’ll get a call from BET again, but I’m thankful for this moment and this project. It fell on my 44th birthday and reunited me with some of the creatives I started this wild journey with. I think we made something special for this reunion.

And ironically, 2026 has already brought me several reunions I’m excited to share. So cheers to getting part of the band back together for another rodeo. And I ain’t mad at all the OOH.
